Seminyak has really changed over the past 20 years, in fact I would say Seminyak over the last two decades has changed more than any other place in Bali. If you are after a low budget holiday this is not the place for you. It has five star bars and clubs along with luxury hotels and villas. The main streets are full of designer brands and boutiques. This is high end tourism and yes there are also plenty of massage parlors but you won’t get a happy ending massage in these establishments.
Seminyak is full of money, mainly from Jakarta and Europe and other parts of Asia. It is an area where people have deep pockets and are comfortable to spend several hundred dollars at a nice restaurant or bar without any concern. Seminyak is a place that usually attracts couples on honey moon or people who want to be seen at a certain bar or restaurant who want to take a million photos and post them on Instagram and Facebook. It’s a “Look at me” place. You will still see the occasional backpacker or Bogan from Australia but they are the minority in this area.
